ART GENEVE: Palexpo

29 January - 1 February 2026

At the occasion of Art Genève 2026, we would be pleased to present an exhibition dedicated to the major Japanese artists from the New school of Paris : Toshimitsu Imai (1928-2002), Hisao Domoto (1928-2013), Kumi Sugai (1919-1996), Shigeo Shinjo (1945-2014) and Sumiyoshi Akeji (1938-2018).Their work occupy a unique place in the history of postwar abstraction. As vital figures at the crossroads of the Japanese avant-garde and European lyrical abstraction, these painters played a key role in the artistic dialogue between East and West during the second half of the 20th century.

This exhibition follows on from our recent publication Three Japanese Painters in Paris: 1950–1970, published in March 2025 by Éditions Lienart, which re-examines the work of several of these artists within the broader context of postwar global abstraction.
